About

Kingfisher Historical Fencing Club was established in 2021 to bring HEMA to Chico, California.
From the study of fencing history to competition in regional tournaments, our members work toward a variety of goals at many levels of experience. We aim to foster an environment of fun, scholarship, inclusivity and safety for all.

We meet several times per week at Basis Health & Performance.

Schedule

Monday - Two-Handed Swords
7:00 - 9:00PM

Our study of two-handed swords is rooted in the work of Fiore dei Liberi. Advanced studies pull from a variety of historical sources- as well as modern fencing theory- to reconstruct the weapon form and develop methods of our own.

Thursday - One-Handed Swords
6:30 - 8:30PM

We are currently studying French smallsword systems, as well as present-day developments in the sport. Previous studies have included early Italian rapier and British military sabre.

Membership

Newcomers are welcome to join us for two free lessons and see what we’re all about.

Our monthly fee is $65, which entitles members to join in weekly classes and use the club’s protective equipment and weapons. Long-term members are required to maintain a HEMA Alliance membership for liability coverage ($25 yearly through our club affiliation.) We recommend waiting to purchase personal equipment until learning your preferences through practice.
